They Shall Not Grow Old - TV Program/Film Review

TV Programme/Film: They Shall Not Grow Old
Director: Peter Jackson
Channel: BBC 2
Age Certificate: 15
Genre: Documentary, History, World War One

What Was The Film About?
The film was showing the horrors of WW1 with a new digital way. It was using the old original footage that had been carefully re-mastered to the latest technology. The documentary showed what World War One was like for the soliders in never-seen-before footage of the trenches. It was premiered on BBC 2 on November the 11th at 9pm. Though you can still go and see it in certain cinemas across the country.

My Thoughts
This was a really good film and a very good way of highlighting the horrors of WW1 in the trenches. I loved the way that the black and white recordings were left in. About 15 minutes of the film's beginning as well as the end had the small aspects and the olden look. But as the soldiers headed into the trenches, it was then that the colour seeped into the image while the screen widened. A very good way of transitioning between the old and edited videos. By doing this, Peter Jackson allowed the soldiers to tell their own stories. To be honest, it was done really well.
I hope that this documentary isn't forgotten like all others. I want this documentary to be put on to disc and then distributed to all schools, colleges as well as universities to show what happened in WW1.
